Gregg de HaanGregg de Haan, General Contractor, Principal/Founder

Gregg is the founder and principal of de Haan and Associates Construction Consulting. His primary role is to lead field investigations, gather field data, attend expert meetings, mediations, arbitrations, prepare field testing data for trial and represent owners and builders in trial as an expert witness. He also specializes in preparing repair scopes, cost estimates and complex defect reports. His current case load consists of universities, school districts, casinos, commercial properties and single family homes. He is well versed in all facets of modern construction.  Gregg also specializes in plan reviews as they relate to waterproofing above and below grade and specializes in high alpine waterproofing, roofing and general construction. In addition, he also provides code compliance reviews and SB800 related building inspections.

As a young child, Gregg developed a love for the building trade, learning how to build with his father. Before and after college Gregg developed his skills building homes and problem solving for several high-end builders. He took a brief break in the construction trade to perform mechanical design and production in an infrared optics lab building a blood glucose measuring device. After his break in construction trade he returned to the industry to work for Ryan Associates.  In 2006 he left Paul Ryan to begin litigation and waterproofing consulting. He joined Richard Avelar and Associates in 2007 where he took a lead expert role in several large scale construction defect matters.

Adam FernandezAdam Fernandez,  P.E., Consulting Engineer

Adam Fernandez is a licensed professional engineer with extensive experience in design and control of commercial HVAC and industrial process systems. His experience includes projects in a wide range of facility types including Commercial Office Buildings, Data Centers, Hospitals, Large Retail Facilities, Educational Campuses, and a myriad of industrial manufacturing sectors.

Adam has been working as a mechanical engineer since 2003 but has lived a majority of his life engrossed in mechanical systems and troubleshooting. Before finding his way to engineering school, his endeavor to find a rewarding career found him working as an apprentice electrician, finish carpenter, motorcycle mechanic, and shop service manager. The skills and understanding developed while pursuing these careers helps him solve the problems of his wide breath of clients.

These days Adam has a passion for “green” designs and conserving energy. As a senior mechanical engineer at the Applied Technology Services Department of PG&E he is engaged in pushing the envelope with respect to energy savings and building performance. A majority of his time is spent helping ensure that buildings and systems work properly through design QA, specification review, and commissioning. He offers extensive knowledge of Title-24, California’s strict energy code, which he finds helpful in leveraging his clients’ positions when projects are close to complete. Making sure systems work correctly and efficiently at the end of the project is his primary focus.

R. Adam DarriauR. Adam Darriau, General Contractor and Designer

As a contractor, Adam provides as-built support for de Haan & Associates. He's familiarized himself with many environmental design professions such as industrial design, architecture, landscape architecture, drafting, and related trades. Adam has devoted himself to developing and executing difficult, one-of-a-kind projects for more than 30 years.  He has worked closely with design firms, subcontractors and consultants for all phases and systems associated with commercial and residential construction. Adam has worked and studied under many notable architects and designers.

Adam's career includes ten years for speculation builders and developers on affordable housing projects, in the naval architecture industry as a millwright and trim fitter for yacht interiors, and for last twenty years working in high-end residential home building as a casework foreman, draftsman, designer, and recruiter as well as honing his skills as an estimator for local San Francisco Bay Area construction companies. In addition, he encourages a fromal, sustainable design and building process.

RAD services include:

  - Carpentry, and other highly skilled trades, and crafts.
  - Construction Administration, Layout, and Supervision.
  - Billing Reviews.

In his spare time he's an out doors person, who sails high performance sailing vessels of all types, mostly small craft and enjoys following R&D on cutting edge water craft, naval architecture and motor sports.
